Beginners Yoga Course

Weston-super-Mare

About the course

This six week course will guide you through the basics of Hatha Yoga poses, alignment, breathwork and relaxation.  Yoga can help you to find physical ease, develop physical and mental strength, deal with stress and heal from injury.

We will focus on a different group of poses each week eg forward bends, backbends, twists and you will be able to take your time finding your unique optimum alignment and how to modify the poses for your body.

We will also be looking at how to breathe well for health and calm, and how the functional breath can help us to access postures and keep the body supple.

You will find out the benefits of each pose and you'll be able to feel the benefits of your yoga practice very soon. A focused and well-paced discovery of yoga can help you to befriend the body, vastly improve body awareness and allow you to develop your own tools for health and well being.

The course is open to anyone of any age - if you're worried about being "too old" - plenty of over 50s and over 60s take up yoga and feel the benefits very soon. If you're not sure whether yoga lessons are the right thing for you, get in touch with Morven to discuss your options and which approach will be best.

Week 1: Building body awareness. Using energy efficiently

Week 2: Grounding. Finding our foundations and moving safely into backbends and standing poses.

"The beginners course was a wonderful introduction to yoga, and I would highly recommend it to anyone contemplating having a go. After my class I had the best night's sleep ever.. It was worth it for that alone!!!" - Sarah, course attendee

"I joined Morven's Beginner course even though I'd done yoga for a long time.  I really enjoyed learning more about how to build up the moves and learn how to make them work for my body safely." - Katharine, course attendee

"I joined Morven's 'Beginners Yoga' class. Although I used to practice Hatha yoga regularly many years ago I felt out of touch and am considerably older so thought I would start at the beginning and leave my preconceptions behind!
This six week course was wonderful! No 'power yoga', no forcing oneself into difficult postures, no stress! Just Morven's patient, detailed teaching and soothing voice reminding us to listen to our own bodies and move in tune with our physical and mental being." -
Sue, course attendee

"Having practised yoga on and off for many years, it has been very insightful to join Morven's "beginner's class" and have such clear teaching on the fundamentals that had been (unknowingly!) missing before. She is a warm, highly experienced and in-depth teacher."

- Sarena, course attendee
